Do you know who I am?
Almost certainly not. This is a reading site: nobody registers, nobody pays, and we never ask for Jokabet details. That leaves three sources of personal data, and all three are modest. Our web server keeps technical logs, cookies appear only where you allow them, and emails reach us only when you decide to write.
Two pieces of law set the rules we follow: the UK's own version of the GDPR, plus the Data Protection Act passed at Westminster in 2018.
Who looks after the data?
The editors who write and publish this guide act as data controller. Email is the way to reach us. We are separate from Jokabet and from Investan N.V., and nothing we hold is pooled with theirs.
What does the server record?
Each request leaves a line in the log: an IP address, a timestamp, which page was fetched, a browser description and the referring page, if any. We read those lines to spot broken pages, keep the site upright and fend off bots. We lean on legitimate interest as the legal ground: a site has to work and stay secure. Logs roll over after about 30 days; an entry is kept longer while we look into an attack that involved it.
And cookies?
A single essential cookie stores the answer you gave the cookie banner. Anything beyond that, statistics or campaign tracking, waits for a yes from you, and a yes can become a no whenever you like. The full list sits on the cookie page. Consent is the legal ground for the optional ones.
What happens when I email you?
We get the sending address, any name in the message and the words you wrote. Those are used to answer you and, if you have caught a mistake, to fix the guide. Threads are deleted twelve months after the last reply. Leave passwords, card numbers and scans of ID out of your messages: they are useless to us, and we cannot open Jokabet accounts anyway.
Is anything sold or shared for marketing?
- No data is sold, swapped or rented to anyone.
- There is no mailing list, so no marketing emails either.
- Jokabet does not pass us the details of people who register after clicking our links.
A click through to Jokabet may be logged by the partner programme so that a referral fee can be matched. That record lives on their systems, under their notice, and what reaches us is a count, not a name.
Which companies help you run the site?
A hosting company keeps the pages and the logs on its servers. With your consent, an analytics provider handles visit statistics for us. Both work on our instructions only and may not reuse the data for themselves. If either processes data beyond the UK, the transfer is covered by the protections British law demands.
What can I ask for?
A copy of your data, a correction, deletion, a restriction on how we use it, or an objection to that use. Consent you gave for cookies can be withdrawn. Write to us saying which of these you want, and expect an answer inside a month.
Still unhappy after we reply? Britain's data regulator, the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO), deals with data protection complaints across the UK, via ico.org.uk. We would like to hear about a problem before the regulator does, but you are free to go straight to them.
What about under-18s?
The guide is written for adults only. Any email we discover was sent by a child gets deleted.
Will this page change?
When our practices change, so will this text, and the date at the foot of the page will say when. See also the terms of use and the legal notice, or head back to the main guide.
